In this series, we will explore the basic rhythms that connect us as human beings. Participants will build somatic movement from a place of meditative connection and will have access to and instruction on a variety of hand drums. The intrinsic relationship between rhythm and body will be opened, expressed, and enhanced in a movement and music experience for artists and people of all kinds.
Coral Lobera is a drummer, artist and activist currently living and working as a barber/hairstylist in Echo Park. Since moving to LA in 2008, Coral has been at the hub of some intersections between art and activism, volunteering her time and skills toward serving the queer community and advocating for social and environmental justice through her work with Project Q (providing hair services to homeless queer youth), the Bicycle Kitchen (teaching bike mechanics), and the Burrito Project (making and delivering burritos to homeless in dtla).
Coral is known in the LA community as the drummer for the wildly popular Sparkleblob puppet show, as a Planet Queer Participant, and creator of Las caminantes de la Luna: A Chavela Vargas tribute.
