April 15: Dancing Diaspora Signature Class with Marina Magalhães
We are thrilled to host our very own Dancing Diaspora Founder, Mestra Marina Magalhães! Marina will share her signature Dancing Diaspora class, which she began in 2017 and was the seed that sparked our beloved Dancing Diaspora platform. Marina’s class embraces the play between rigor and instinct, tradition and creativity, and ancestry and individuality that is at the heart of diasporic experience. Get ready to sweat and play!
Marina Magalhães is a border-crosser, bridge-builder, and dance-and-change-maker from Brazil based in Los Angeles. She has shared her unique movement approach throughout the US, Brazil, Cuba, Botswana, South Africa, Germany, France, and Bali, inviting movers of all kinds to find the connection between movement-making in our bodies and movement-building in our communities. She earned her B.A. degree in World Arts & Cultures/Dance from UCLA and her M.F.A. degree in Dance from University of the Arts.
(Can’t make it to class live? Register anyway! You will receive a video recording of class so you can dance when works for you!)
