From September 5 – December 12, 2014, Laura Vitale will hang one new drawing at a time on the north wall at Pieter, next to the plants and the pillows. The work will reflect her first year of living in Los Angeles, and will live alongside the activities in the space: rehearsal, performance, hanging out, bodies moving, and stillness.
The drawing will change every 3 weeks, on Friday afternoons after Physical Practice class with Nick Duran and James Kidd Open Studio. This ongoing exhibition will have no formal opening or closing. There will be an event related to the work at Pieter on Monday, October 13, 2014.
Laura Vitale has had solo exhibitions at Recess and at Harvestworks in New York City, and has exhibited and performed in group events and collaborations in New York City at Sculpture Center, MoMA, The Kitchen, La MaMa, Roulette, and The Poetry Project at St. Mark’s Church. Laura received an Emerging Artist Commission from Issue Project Room, an Individual Artist Grant from the New York State Council on the Arts, and was commissioned to make a multi-channel sound installation for WNYC’s 100th anniversary.
