It’s Like This Out There
DESCRIPTION // It’s Like This Out There is part commentary, part joke, part heartfelt examination. This in-progress solo from Danielle Ross plays with themes including but not limited to: defining success, the current state of affairs on Tinder, the impulse to shoot one’s self in the foot and the beauty of getting messy.
Danielle Ross is a Portland-based choreographer and performer. She received her BFA in Dance and Performance Studies from UC Berkeley. In Portland, she co-curates the poetry/dance/video series Pure Surface, is on the board of the Creative Music Guild and is a founding member ofFRONT. Ross has worked with Linda Austin, Dawn Stoppiello and Zoe|Juniper. Her solo It’s Like This Out There will be shown in Portland and the midwest in 2016.
Robert Tyree dances, writes and educates. He has performed his choreography in the US and abroad and worked with a number of Portland choreographers, including Tahni Holt and Linda Austin. His earliest dance work pursued a concept of intensive dance—discos with Deleuze, lofting with Lacan—through performance and publication. From 2011–2013, Tyree developed Lemur in collaboration with Romanian poet Andra Rotaru. Tyree is co-director of FRONT, a newspaper devoted to writing from the field of contemporary dance. His writing on performance has been published online through outlets including Claudia La Rocco’s Performance Club and the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art. roberttyree.net
