An introduction to the practice and philosophy of Ashtanga yoga for all levels, temperaments, and bodies.
In this two hour workshop we will learn the fundamentals of Ashtanga, the traditional method of yoga in which we synchronize the breath with a progressive series of postures to bring strength, flexibility, and clarity. We will begin with breathing exercises, followed by a vigorous and balanced practice of postures taken from the Primary Series of Ashtanga, emphasizing deep breathing and good alignment, with modifications offered for all students. Our focus will be on developing curiosity as we move our bodies, and on the leavening effects of breathing and moving in synchronicity. All are welcome to join for a lively afternoon, whether you are brand new to yoga or have a practice already. Chai will be served!
Rocket Caleshu is a Los Angeles based writer and ashtangi. He has practiced yoga for 17 years, and has maintained a daily Mysore-style ashtanga practice for the past nine years. He teaches variously around Los Angeles.
