Artists in Residence: Maya Gingery, Rikki Rothenberg
The Pieter Holiday Residency provides each artist with five hours of daily studio time. Resident artists can do anything they need or want for artistic/ personal development– make work, paint a mural on the walls, take naps, write, dance, meditate, or hang out with friends. This residence is for personal process and serenity during a calendar holiday; there is no public showing.
About the Artists:
Rikki Rothenberg is a visual and dance artist. A native of Marblehead, MA, Rothenberg earned her BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2004. Rothenberg moved to Portland, OR in 2005, she co-founded the performance group Woolly Mammoth Comes to Dinner with Katie Arrants and Kathleen Keogh. Together they have presented work at the Performatica Festival in Mexico, Bumbershoot in Seattle, the Portland 2010 Biennial (in collaboration with Oregon Painting Society), and PICA’s TBA festival. Simultaneously, Rothenberg has continued her visual arts practice and her work has been shown in group exhibitions in various Portland galleries; Rothenberg is represented by Portland gallery, Nationale. Rothenberg currently resides in Los Angeles where she is earning her master’s degree in Counseling Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute. http://nationale.us
Maya Gingery is a dancemaker, musician, performing artist, writer, arts educator and nature lover. She dances to find and give meaning to the mysterious consequences of living. Her dances explore both mechanical and emotional levels of engagement with corporeality, and reflect her continuing exploration of the collaboration of body, mind, sound and the performative.
