Nico Brown’s solo work hones a very specific and individualistic relationship to formalism and minimalism, both in his body and in the structure of his dances.
His latest solo, Lover, is a rumination on queerness through the aesthetic terrain of the Midwest, a place where profound space and expansive horizon elicit feelings of isolation and nostalgia.
“a powerful dancer with strong ideas” — NY Times 2015
Nico Brown hails from Brooklyn, originally from rural, southern Illinois. He makes dances, usually solos, that address his relationship to landscape, queerness, a love of ballet, and formal composition. Recently he presented a solo in collaboration with music artist Fischerspooner during a sold-out concert at Brooklyn Steel.
