We push, we hook, we echo, we hold.
The discovery of common dance and personal histories of form and location: Irish dance, San Francisco, ten years apart and on different paths, Los Angeles.
Skip, lift, hop.
From our fat, with our intestines moving our legs.

Healing is this dance.
Daily discussion and ample body care time in the studio is part of this practice.
A mundane, radically queer process.

We dance for joy and for rigor.
We dance with precision and wonder.
A mutual need to find joy in moving across the floor, in pointing the toe, in returning to this rigid Irish form, but this time, as snakes.

Jmy James Kidd is a choreographer and costume designer living and working in Southern California. She designs dances, spaces for community gatherings, gardens and decorations for the body (costumes). She is the director of The Sunland Dancers and the founder of Pieter Performance Space (www.pieterpasd.com). Choreographic commissions include Redcat, The Kitchen, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, BOFFO, Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, Pacific Standard Time 2013. She collaborates with her wife Tara Jane O’Neil on many ethereal dance and music projects and has shown this body of collaborative work at Zebulon, Made in LA 2014 at The Hammer Museum, The New Museum, Redcat, The Getty, The Broad, Hauser & Wirth, and various nature locations. She has designed costumes for award winning dance pieces including Sarah Michelson, luciana achugar, John Jasperse, Tere O’Connor and Neil Greenberg among many others. She is currently visioning building a Dance and Music Temple somewhere sometime in the next 10 years.
Michael Thurin is a movement-based artist and former competitive Irish dancer. They have danced in church halls, hotel conventions centers, garages, and nondenominational community centers, and has presented still and moving artwork at SF Camerawork, Actual Size LA, Human Resources, Track 16, and the xMPL at UC Irvine’s Claire Trevor School of the Arts. Thurin is based in Los Angeles and received their MFA in Art from UC Irvine in 2019.
