Week 1: Head, Shoulders, Knees and Booty
Week 2: The Anti-Gravity Machine
We will move in and out of the floor in improvised, choreographed, and partnered exercises to practice increased autonomy in movement. This class is influenced by classical and contemporary dance techniques, somatic practices, a background as a fitness instructor and yoga practitioner, and late nights on the dance floor.
In week one, Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Booty will invite participants to return to a beginner’s mindset as we reacquaint ourselves with our body’s parts, functions, and mechanics.
In week two, The Anti-Gravity Machine, we will more deeply explore the natural folds of the body, utilizing the softening and lengthening of joints to allow for movement and play with our relationship to gravity.
In both sessions, we will direct our skeleton in space, focusing on building strength and increasing our range of motion to maximize our physical efficiency.
