ProjectQ Uses Hair as a Form Of Social Justice, by inviting queer youth of color to our Salon and Community Center.

There we give haircuts to housing insecure youth of color, the youth “PaY” for their haircuts by taking our free self empowering workshops like financial planning, meditation, and so much more. These workshops are taught by queer professionals of color in order to give our youth the representation they need to see themselves as the main character in their own story.

We are partnering with Pieter for their Monday Night Class series, Inviting our community members to use their talents as a form of social justice. As a reminder to use everything in our power to make the world a more equitable place.

January 11th: Kalhina Creations

Embroidery workshop and performance. Making Art Accessible as a form of social justice (supplies can be sent out in advance).

For our workshop, we have compiled a list of links for those who wish to purchase their own supplies, or want hacks to DIY the embroidery tools needed. Click HERE for the Supply list.

The 15 FREE embroidery supply kits provided by Kalhina Creations have all been reserved. Due to USPS staff shortages, we understand that some kits may not get there on time. For that reason, Kalhina Creations will be hosting a follow up “Office Hours” on January 13, 2021 from 5:30-7 PST via Zoom (link will be posted on their Instagram: Kalhina_Creations) to accommodate any questions participants might have on their stitches, further discussion, etc.

All participants, whether they purchase their own supplies, or receive it from us, will have access to the image we are creating for the event, as well as PDF worksheets that cover the stitches and embroidery basics covered in the workshop.
Please review the following digital materials provided by Kalhina Creations prior to the workshop:

Should participants choose to purchase supplies AFTER the event or should their items not arrive by Monday night, they are welcome to join the Office Hour portion on Wednesday Jan 13, 2021. Anyone is also welcome to attend as a viewer to learn the stitches and engage in conversation.
