The Monday Morning Class Series, Curated by Stacy Dawson Stearns, has fallen in love with the NIGHT. We changed. We bid adieu to the day. Fall with us into the dark comfort of evening as we continue the ongoing exchange of body-based creative practices led by teaching artists who practice within the phases of consciousness and creation. Nourish your practice and embrace Lunacy. #getheetoclass @MNCPieter
Oct 1, 8, 15: Radical Tenderness (In 3 acts) with Phillip T. Nails
Jam with language! These classes are intended to coax, invite, and birth words and to experiment with the relationship between text, movement and gesture. There will be typewriters!
We will break the class apart into warm up, check in (both verbal and nonverbal), physical and verbal creation, and then we will jam with one minute textual pieces while mixing gestures (non-literal) and movement. Each week will lean in on the theme. Ideas for tailoring the class to the needs of participants are welcome and considered to be an exciting part of the generative process. Get in here and let nothing remain unsaid.
Week 1: Summon
Week 2: Channel
Week 3: Flip Script
Phillip T. Nails is a performance poet (aka Fyla Zoo), comedic actor and founding director of The Poetry Society of Los Angeles and its immersive installation project Typewriters Anonymous. Hailing from the Nor CAL and a native of the golden state, via a cool dozen years in San Francisco where he majored in Performance Studies at SFSU and was a switchboard operator for San Francisco Sex Information. Nails has studied with theater and performance artists Mary Overlie, Guillermo Gomez Pena, Tim Miller, and beat poets B.L. Kennedy and Brett Bevell. Nails blends these influences into neuro-romanticism, a pastiche skirting the edges of comedy, physical theater and spoken raw human emotion. Now certified through UCLA’s Center for Arts & Healing, Nails brings Social and Emotional Arts & healing practices to his investigation of performance.
