Looking back, looking forward: an update from Pieter

Dear Pieter Community,

The end of this month will mark 1 year since we left our home of over a decade in Lincoln Heights, packing up our floor and our archives from the stairwell and the bathroom stall and putting them in storage. We wanted to take this opportunity to share with you an update of what’s going on at Pieter behind the scenes with regard to relocation and in-person programs.

Regarding our plans to relocate to a new brick and mortar home: we are in research mode right now, eager to explore any and all options. Our requirements are that the space is ADA compliant, with a bathroom, a minimum of 1500 square feet, and lots of natural light.  Whether it is a space you know of that is looking for a new tenant, an organization, collective, or individual looking to share a space, a space that you saw a “For Rent” sign on that you think could be worth a peek, a commercial realtor that you would recommend, or more far afield ideas, please send it all our way: pieterpasd@gmail.com! Everything is on the table right now, as we are hoping to cast a wide net in order to seek out the best fit for Pieter’s next stage of life. We will keep you in the loop as any strong candidates come into focus.

Regarding in-person programming: we will soon be announcing an exciting artist opportunity, which will be hosted in a secured outdoor space and run from Fall 2021 to Spring 2022. Through our relationship with the El Sereno Community Garden, where Pieter now has a beautiful plot that you are welcome to contribute to, the Pieter Community Check-in group has been holding monthly in-person meetings (register for the next meeting here). We also hope to offer a weekly Movement of Stillness community class at the garden in the fall. In addition to these sites, we are checking out some public park spaces for more safe, in-person dancing, and will be sharing all of these details on our platforms as soon as they are available!

As we each “re-emerge,” on our own timing and with a cautious eye on public health recommendations, please know that Pieter is in it with you for the long haul, and we hope to continue to hear your needs and offerings, and to meet them to the best of our capacity. Please reach out to pieterpasd@gmail.com or DM us @pieterperformancespace; your questions, feedback and new ideas will always be welcomed!

With a lot of love and care and fantastic imaginings of our future,

Pieter
