Tara Jane ONeil and Bouquet
Music Afternoon
Tara Jane ONeil: This is music about healing, about listening, about surviving and transmuting the strange inheritance of language. Moving towards a direct perception of apparent reality through collaboration, breath, sound and song. She will be playing the music of her recently released album, Where Shine New Lights (kranky 2014).

Bouquet is a Los Angeles based, psychedelic pop duo consisting of Carolyn Pennypacker Riggs and Max Foreman.  Vocal harmonies lead listeners across an aural landscape of interleaving electric guitar and synthesizer, bolstered by the rhythms of analog drum machines.  The result is an atmosphere both warm and electronic.  A created space – tentatively safe.

Sunday, July 27, 3pm

Runaway Feeling
Fashion Performance Pieces
by dancer person / designer James Kidd
with music by Tara Jane ONeil and The Sunlan Spirit Singers
and fashion designer Shaina Mote

With studios across the hall from each other 2010 – 2011 in a funky old east LA warehouse building, James and Shaina inspired and supported each other to design clothing collections for people to feel beautifully comfortable and expressive in all their moods and feelings. James Kidd uses the essential elements of dance, the raw human body moving from relaxed to ecstatic states and fuses them with into her designs to create custom clothing for all people. Shaina Mote melds technical aspects from pattern making with an experimental approach to draping by playing with notions of timelessness, reinvention, and reinterpretation for her wearer.

Saturday, August 2, 6-9pm

Nick Duran
every time you are near
Within the tableaux of a 1960’s living room— records spin and ornate rugs dress the stage—Nick Duran’s every time you are near is a play between melodrama and formalism. Heightened by risk and emotion, the dancing dissolves its own formal structures to reveal a psyche laid bare, swaying from absence to desire. For his performances at Made in LA 2014, Duran draws upon a year-long process of experimental pedagogical exchanges made at Pieter with both visual and performance-based artists. More info here.
