As autumn approaches and our community gardeners plant seeds for spring, at Pieter we are taking time to reflect on all of the change a tumultuous year has brought for our organization, the many ways we’ve been able to make space for togetherness in spite of our isolation, and the resources we must gather to sustain us for the months ahead.
With a commitment to invest in the people who make our future possible, we have set a goal of raising $10,000 in the month of October that will directly support wage increases for Pieter’s current and future employees.
Please join us in celebrating that in the last 12 months, Pieter’s staff has:
-hosted 114 facilitating movement artists, healers and activists
-produced 432 class, workshop and event sessions over Zoom
-welcomed a total of 9,880 participants to our online programs
-hired our first Programming & Internship Coordinator, a position designed to build a more transparent and community-driven approach to programming and mentorship opportunities
-developed partnerships with the El Sereno Community Garden, ProjectQ, Metro Arts Presents, Self Help Graphics and, most recently, The Box gallery
-created 2 community advisory groups: Pieter Community Check-in and the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Access Committee
-drafted a Community Agreement in collaboration with Pieter artists and audiences
-launched Pieter Parking Space: a secured outdoor dance platform to foster a return to practice for artists who have not had access to rehearsal space throughout the pandemic
-begun our city-wide search for Pieter’s new home: an ADA-compliant space where we hope to offer subsidized studio rentals and no/low-cost movement and performance programs
-presented our first in-person performance event since March 2020, with more to come this fall!
With a great deal more programming and organizational growth planned for the year ahead, our 2021 fundraising effort asks our community to help sustain the people who sustain Pieter. Your donation will directly support payroll increases of an additional $5/hour for all staff positions: Pieter’s Executive Director, Programming and Internship Coordinator and Communications Director.
Increased wages will reflect the value of our team’s work to ensure Pieter’s survival through rapidly-shifting pandemic conditions, and to foster continual growth towards our goals of transparency, accessibility and accountability at all levels of our programming and behind-the-scenes operations.
