Every Body Equinox at El Sereno Community Garden
Join us for a guided Movement Choir, then help tend to and decorate the Pieter plot and the adjacent Aloha Lounge at the El Sereno Community Garden. We will come together in the garden just days after the Autumn Equinox, between two powerful lunar eclipses, to plant seeds for the season to come. We will also orient volunteers who are interested in providing ongoing stewardship to the Pieter garden plot.

ALL LEVELS, ALL BODIES movement class! Slow warm-up w/ somatic approaches warming into a groovy modern movement exploration by giving yourself permission and loving on your body as you do so!
This class focuses on cross connections of basic movements of
Latine Social Dance lead by a Nostalgic POLY-JAM-OROUS playlist ranging from; Boleros, 90's house, Afro-latin to early 2000's Pop music and current! All these rhythms cross borders and in through our bodies - se aTRAVIESA while you also get to be a traviesa!

Join us for a three-part workshop series led by choreographer Becky X exploring the dynamic history and artistry of voguing, a dance form born from Black and Latinx, LGBTQ, poor and sex worker communities. This series offers a chance to delve into the five elements of vogue fem performance and master the art of commanding attention and stage presence by developing unique characters. Drawing on Becky’s decade of experience in the ballroom scene, she'll guide participants in expressing their fiercest selves.

Dust to Dust: Pieter/WeHo AiR Showcase
A culminating evening of performance developed by Pieter’s 2023 and 2024 WeHo artists-in-residence, m and Ryan OByrne, presented in the Great Hall in West Hollywood. Plummer Park's Great Hall is a historic location where the Los Angeles chapter of the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power (ACT UP) met weekly from 1987-1996 to organize candlelight vigils, "die-ins," and direct actions during the HIV/AIDS epidemic. In honor of this history, this residency invites artists to engage with traditions of queer disruption and creation in the ongoing context of mass sickness and social abandonment.

This class invites all to connect and move through Afro-latin(e) rhythms, Cumbia, House and Modern dance with somatic cross-connections. Atraviesa explores the way the body carries the history of migration that guides the inner groove we already carry. With a song list full of Latine nostalgia, you might even find yourself tapping into your inner Señora, sueltate el pelo y atraviesa!

This workshop will include all the elements of our weekly dance practice classes, just with a slower pace and more individual attention toward the foundations and building blocks of a safe ballet practice. we'll go at the pace that suits you, as always practicing kindness and patience with our bodies. we may journal our intentions together to bookend our movement practice.
