Description: This class focuses on cross connections of basic movements of

Latine Social Dance lead by a Nostalgic POLY-JAM-OROUS playlist ranging from; Boleros, 90's house, Afro-latin to early 2000's Pop music and current! All these rhythms cross borders and in through our bodies - se aTRAVIESA while you also get to be a traviesa!

An ode to all of those entering: “Señora Era need-to-water-my plants- but also wanna get down-sort-of-groove! Just a breezy sweaty juicy session on a Sunday!”

What to expect: This class is meant to be a space to release and connect back to yourself all while moving to upbeat music through grounded polyrhythmic movement with a mix of slow Latine nostalgia music.

Bio(s): Isis Avalos-Perez is a Mother, Bordercrosser, Movement Artist from South Texas, based on Tongva land AKA Los Angeles. Avalos holds a B.F.A degree from the University of North Texas. She toured nationally & internationally as a Performing/Teaching Artist with CONTRA-TIEMPO Dance Theatre for almost 7 years and is currently an Adjunct Professor of Latin Social Dance at LA Valley College. She was part of the 2020 Art of Leadership Cohort for LA County Arts Ed Collective. In Fall 2021, Avalos was the Artist in Residence for ShowBox LA Community Programming. Her movement aesthetic relating to her Mexican Heritage, Afro-latin rhythms, House dance influence and Modern release informs the intersections of existing in the "in-between". Her lived experience from growing up on the Borderland as a previously undocumented immigrant is a foundational driving force of movement exploration for Isis and continues to fuel her work as an Artist and Cultural Worker.

Accessibility note: Easy to navigate floor plans, respectful of pronouns, increased volume, breaks, bilingual Spanish/English. The space is located on the 2nd floor with one flight of stairs directly up from the entrance. Elevator access is available; please email pieterpasd@gmail.com prior to event if you will be using it. The elevator is spacious enough for any mobility device and the 2nd floor space is free of any steps or mobility barriers. There are no automated doors in the building. There are two all-gender restrooms with three private stalls and a urinal. Each restroom has one stall accessible for mobility device users.Free parking is available directly behind our building at 2412 Workman Street. There are two additional free city lots south of Broadway on Workman Street. There is also ample metered parking in the neighborhood, free after 6pm or 8pm, depending on the street.Have questions or need additional accommodations?
