About: Ready to Dance the Cuban way? Join Cuban Choreographer and educator Kati Hernandez for a true beginners’s dance course exploring Cuban Rumba, accompanied by live percussionists! Dive into the world of Cuban Rumba with a step-by-step approach over 3 sessions. Learn 5 basic steps, footwork, posture, gestures and small dance phrases to help you to start developing your own vocabulary. Students will cultivate authentic expression and delve into the cultural richness of Cuban music and dance. Discover the joy and resilience of Rumba - the heartbeat of Cuba!
What to Expect:
Suitable for dancers of ALL backgrounds and levels. *Please be aware that Cuban Rumba is very different from ballroom Rumba.
Wear comfortable shoes, or be barefoot, and wear flexible workout clothing that will not restrict or inhibit movement. Bring a folkloric skirt or scarf if you have one.
Movements will be carefully broken down.
Musical and historical information to help students understand the close relationship between the rhythms, dance, and cultural aspects of Rumba.
Small dance phrases and drills to help develop your individual vocabulary.
Well suited for those with a basic understanding of “clave” in the music.
Detailed information will be given about the nuances that make this dance so full of grace and flavor.
Accessibility: The space is located on the 2nd floor with one flight of stairs directly up from the entrance. Elevator access is available; please email pieterpasd@gmail.com prior to event if you will be using it. The elevator is spacious enough for any mobility device and the 2nd floor space is free of any steps or mobility barriers. There are no automated doors in the building. There are two all-gender restrooms with three private stalls and a urinal. Each restroom has one stall accessible for mobility device users.Free parking is available directly behind our building at 2412 Workman Street. There are two additional free city lots south of Broadway on Workman Street. There is also ample metered parking in the neighborhood, free after 6pm or 8pm, depending on the street.Have questions or need additional accommodations?
