Title: The Gaza Monologues

Facilitator: Sonali Fiske in collaboration with the Ashtar Theatre in Ramallah

Date: Friday, January 19th, 7-9pm

Description: The Ashtar Theatre in Ramallah has put out an urgent call requesting that art, theater, and performance organizations around the globe publicly read or perform The Gaza Monologues in solidarity with the people of Palestine. The Gaza Monologues were written by Ashtar youth in 2010, after the first war on the Gaza Strip, and highlight the pain and resilience of the children of Gaza resisting occupation. After their stories were written down, the young people performed for audiences in Gaza, but since they were not allowed to travel, they shared their scripts with artists around the world so that their stories could be heard beyond the siege.

Three months into Israel’s ongoing genocide of the people of Gaza, Pieter, in collaboration with Sonali Fiske and the Ashtar Theatre, invites you to an evening of deep listening and bearing witness. Be in sacred space to grieve and honor the resistance of the Palestinian people.

Accessibility: Masks will be provided and it is requested that attendees wear them to allow performers and presenters to be unmasked for the reading and presentation. Unscented candles will be lit during the program. Limited chair seating will be prioritized for folks with disabilities. There will also be cushions and blankets for floor seating, and folks are invited to bring additional cushions and blankets for their comfort.

The space is located on the 2nd floor with one flight of stairs directly up from the entrance. Elevator access is available; please check in with our door-greeter and they will assist with operating the elevator. The elevator is spacious enough for any mobility device and the 2nd floor space is free of any steps or mobility barriers.

There are two all-gender restrooms with three private stalls and a urinal. Each restroom has one mobility device accessible stall. If you have any specific questions or access needs, please email pieterpasd@gmail.com.

What to Bring/Expect: Readings of the Gaza Monologue will be filmed and shared with the Ashtar Theatre. Please feel free to bring flowers or other offerings for the community altar. Please also feel free to bring blankets, pillows, or cushions for additional comfort.

Capacity: Space is limited, RSVP required
